1Rx16 vs 2Rx8 DDR5 Performance

The 1Rx16 single-rank module uses a single bank of 16-bit-wide chips. The 2Rx8 dual-rank module (as in the 32GB AC774043) uses two banks of 8-bit-wide chips. This enables rank interleaving for potentially higher effective bandwidth. At the 8GB capacity, 1Rx16 is the standard configuration. For workloads that are highly memory-bandwidth sensitive, a pair of 8GB 1Rx16 modules in dual-channel mode generally provides better effective bandwidth than a single 16GB 1Rx16 module at the same total capacity.
