The Broadcom 57416 10GbE NIC provides two 10Gigabit BASE-T (RJ45) ports in the compact OCP NIC 3.0 form factor for Dell PowerEdge servers. It enables South African data centres to achieve 10GbE server connectivity over standard copper Cat6/Cat6A cabling infrastructure.

Dual 10GbE Over Copper

Unlike SFP+ optical adapters that require fibre cabling, the Broadcom 57416 10GbE NIC uses standard RJ45 BASE-T ports compatible with existing Cat6 and Cat6A copper cabling. This significantly reduces infrastructure costs when upgrading server networking. Both ports operate simultaneously at 10Gbps, providing up to 20Gbps of total bandwidth for storage, backup, vMotion, and production traffic. Additionally, BASE-T connectivity simplifies cabling management in existing server racks.

OCP NIC 3.0 Form Factor

The Open Compute Project NIC 3.0 form factor mounts directly to the motherboard via a dedicated OCP slot in Dell PowerEdge servers including the R650, R750, and R750xs. This preserves PCIe riser slots for GPU or storage expansion cards. Furthermore, OCP NICs draw power directly from the motherboard connector, simplifying cable management in dense server deployments considerably.
