Windows Server 2025 ROK is the OEM licence for the latest Microsoft server OS on qualifying Dell PowerEdge hardware. It provides a cost-effective licensing path for South African businesses.

Windows Server 2025 ROK — 16-Core OEM Licence

The ROK is hardware-bound to the specific server and cannot transfer to different hardware. The base licence covers up to 16 physical cores; additional 2-core packs cover each pair of cores above that. The Standard edition supports two Windows Server 2025 virtual machine instances on the licensed physical server cores. Windows Server 2025 introduces hotpatch capability for applying security updates without rebooting (on supported configurations), enhanced Active Directory auditing and credential protection, SMB signing enforcement by default, NVMe storage driver improvements, and Secured-core server features for hardware-level firmware protection. CALs are required separately for each user or device accessing the server. See the Microsoft website for complete licensing terms.

ROK Licensing for South African IT Resellers and Businesses

South African IT resellers bundle Windows Server 2025 ROK as the OS alongside new Dell hardware. End customers receive a genuine, hardware-validated Microsoft licence at a lower price than the equivalent retail licence. The ROK is specifically for bundling with qualifying Dell server hardware and may not be deployed on non-qualifying hardware. The ROK typically does not include a recovery DVD; the OS is pre-installed or deployed via PXE network boot. Browse server software in the Software & Services section at Briggi Tech.

Upgrade Path from Windows Server 2022

Windows Server 2025 supports in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2022 in most configurations. For Server 2019, an in-place upgrade to 2025 is supported but a clean install is recommended. Organisations migrating Active Directory domain controllers should review Microsoft’s Server 2025 migration documentation, as ADFS schema upgrades require specific procedures. Additional core licences beyond the base 16 are ordered as separate SKUs and must be tracked against the installed server’s physical core count.
